Trucost is delighted to announce the results of the Environmental Disclosure Award, a quantitative element of the Singapore Sustainable Business Awards 2014.
Companies participating in this award were judged on their relative performance against the same sector average in Asia; their public disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions (scope 1 and 2), water consumption and waste generation; and the materiality of those environmental key performance indicators that they reported on. The award allows companies to demonstrate that they are both aware of the scale of their environmental risks and are taking steps to manage them in a way that is data driven and systematic.
This year’s winner is Singapore-based real estate company City Developments Limited (CDL), which has shown a strong commitment to sustainability leadership through its targets, initiatives and reporting.
Esther An, head of corporate social responsibility at CDL, said: “Environmental management and reporting has long been high on our business agenda to help us raise resource efficiency and mitigate risks. Stakeholders are increasingly looking for information beyond financial data that will help them assess a company’s long term sustainability. In 2008, CDL published Singapore’s first dedicated GRI-checked sustainability report. We are glad that our firm commitment to sustainability reporting is recognised by Trucost, which has extensive expertise in corporate reporting.”
Sustainability reporting in Singapore received a big boost in October, when the Singapore Stock Exchange announced it was to implement mandatory sustainability reporting for all listed companies. The SGX is drafting reporting guidelines in a year-long consultation process, with the requirements expected to come into force in 2017-2018.
