New Reporting regulations Companies need to produce Business Review as part of the requirements of the AMD regulations. The non-financial reporting requirements of the Business Review are recommended for medium-sized companies but are mandatory for companies defined by the regulation as large. For many companies this is unfamiliar territory. The reporting of environmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) may be just as important as more traditional financial KPIs and inadequate reporting could expose directors to personal liability. New Government Guidelines New reporting Guidelines have been developed by Defra and Trucost to help companies determine and report on their environmental performance using appropriate KPIs. The Guidelines outline how environmental impacts can be measured through KPIs—in many cases making use of standard business data that may already be collected—and how to report them. An important finding is that 80% of companies need to report five or fewer environmental KPIs.
