Dr. Peter Victor is Professor
of Environmental Studies at York University, Toronto. He was Dean of the
Faculty until June 2001.
He has served on numerous advisory committees and boards. Currently he
is Vice-President of the Council of the Royal Canadian Institute for the
Advancement of Science, Chair of Environment Canada's Science and Technology
Advisory Board and a Director of the Canada Prize Awards Foundation. He
is also a member of the Seeds Foundation, the Environmental Committee
of the Laidlaw Foundation, and the ITER Environmental Committee.
He was the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Environmental Sciences and
Standards Division with the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Energy
and continues to be involved with research and consulting in the private
sector. He was the founding President of the Canadian Society of Ecological
Economics and for many years was a principal in an environmental economics
consulting company.
His research has focussed on ecological economics, sustainability, environmental
policy, and other public policies. He participated in a recent study for
the Ontario Medical Association on the economic costs of smog. Currently
he is working on modelling the interactions among the economy, environment,
poverty and unemployment as well as advising the City of Toronto on strategies
for emissions trading.
