Germany and Italy reject nuclear power

Seventeen power plants that generate 22% of Germany's electricity will be shut down by 2022. The Government has set a target for renewable energy to generate 35% of Germany's power by 2020, by which time all new buildings will have to meet low-energy standards. Meanwhile, the Italian electorate voted against the Government's plans to construct nuclear plants. They also rejected water privatisation plans.
