IIGCC recommends measuring carbon in property funds

The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) has issued guidance on measuring and managing climate-related risks and opportunities in real estate portfolios. Building occupiers and owners will increasingly favour environmentally-efficient buildings with less risk. Pension fund trustees therefore need to consider the degree to which fund managers are managing and reducing carbon emissions and other environmental impacts of their property assets. So says the  IIGCC's guidance for property investors on the information that they need from property fund managers to understand how they are managing climate risks and opportunities in real estate portfolios. Property fund managers can use the guidelines to find out about the environmental data they will increasingly be asked to provide to their pension fund clients.
