Lock-in to high-carbon energy threatens climate goal

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned that the world will lock itself into a high-carbon energy system unless there is a bold change in government policies. Its latest projections show that if current energy and climate commitments are implemented, rising carbon dioxide emissions could contribute to a global temperature rise above 3.5°C. The window of opportunity to act to prevent severe climate change impacts is closing.
