Dr. Robert Goodland is the Independent
Environmental Commissioner, for the EIR, a World Mining Commission, for
the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002. He is advising H.E.
Emil Salim, Chairman of the Summit's PrepCom.
Prior to this position, he was the Environmental Advisor to the World
Bank for 25 years, where he promulgated most of their environmental and
social policies. He was elected chair of the Ecological Society of America
(Metropolitan), and President of the International Association of Impact
Assessment.
He is, by profession, a tropical ecologist and specialises in the assessment
of social and environmental impacts of development projects and has published
more than 20 books on these topics. He won the Millennial Conservation
Prize in 2000.
