Executive Directors

Simon Thomas, Chief Executive

Simon Thomas, a founding director of Trucost, has 24 years senior business experience in the finance, publishing and self-storage industries. As Chief Executive of Trucost, Simon is a regular commentator on the quantification of environmental impacts and he frequently addresses the investment and corporate community on SRI and CSR-related issues. Simon is also a director of Lok'nStore, the AIM listed self-storage company. Previously Simon co-founded the Emerging Markets Investment Trust business at LCF Edmond de Rothschild and he has held senior positions at Swiss Bank Corporation, Nomura International and Reed International.

Andrew Jacobs, Chairman
 

Andrew Jacobs, a founding director of Trucost, has an MPhil in Economics from Cambridge University and a BSc in Economics from London School of Economics. Andrew has 20 years experience as a stockbroker and entrepreneur. In 1995 he founded Lok'nStore, the AIM listed self-storage company. Previously Andrew was an Executive Director at Nomura International.

Richard Mattison, Managing Director
 

Dr Richard Mattison joined Trucost in 2001, having previously worked as a management consultant. Dr Mattison oversees the Trucost's management of projects for the UK Government; other responsibilities include the strategic development of the company as well as development of new products

Peter de Graaf, Managing Director
 

As MD Corporate and Institutional Services, Peter leads the business development, marketing and communication activities across both the investment and the corporate markets. Peter has over 15 years experience in the areas of finance, the environment and public policy and has worked and lived in Brussels, The Hague and London. Formerly, Peter was a Managing Director with FTSE, the equity index provider, where he was responsible for directing the growth of the business across the EMEA region.

Hon. Richard Bennett

Hon. Richard Bennett currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Corporate Library, LLC, an independent research firm focusing on corporate governance and director/executive compensation. Earlier, he served as a consultant with Lens Governance Advisors, PA., founded and owned by pioneering shareholder activist Robert A.G. Monks. Mr. Bennett is also a member of the Board of The Corporate Library, LLC, and an independent director of Biddeford Internet Corporation. He has an extensive background in politics and government service as well as a wide range of private sector experience, including the founding and management of several businesses. He served as director of corporate governance for Lens Investment Management, LLC, from 1997 to 2002. A former President of the Maine Senate, Richard Bennett has been elected to four terms in the Maine Senate and two terms in the Maine House of Representatives. He has a BA Hons. from Harvard University and an MBA from the University of Southern Maine.

Gordon Buchanan

Gordon Buchanan is a Partner of Sciens Capital Management, a New York private equity firm. Previously he was a founding member of Mitchell Madison Group, a strategy consultancy, after 10 years at McKinsey & Co. Gordon has an MBA and an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the University of British Columbia.

John Higgins

John Higgins is president, Chief Investment Officer, and principal owner of Ram Trust Services, Inc., Atlantic Financial Services, Inc., and Ram Trust Company, an investment and financial services advisory group, located in Portland, Maine, USA. In addition, he serves as director of The Corporate Library, LLC, a corporate governance research firm; a consultant with Lens Governance Advisors, PA; and a corporate governance advisor to legal firms and institutional investors. He is a general partner of Ram Equity Partners, LP, a private equity investor. He is a former president and Chief Investment Officer of Lens Investment Management, LLC; former chairman of the executive committee of Atlantic Bank, NA; and former alternate director at Hermes Lens Asset Management. He has a BA with honors in History from Harvard University.

Richard Holmes

Richard Holmes was Commercial Director, Beauty, at Boots. Prior to this he held positions at Boots as Director of Offer Development, President and founder of Boots Wellbeing, Marketing Director, and Director of Healthcare. He was also Head of Strategy and Development for Unilever's worldwide dental business. Richard has an MSc in Economics from Warwick University, and a BSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Christopher Roper

On the successful conclusion (2002) of a four-year earn-out at Landmark Information Group, the company he founded in 1994, Christopher Roper  developed a portfolio of investments in early stage companies, and a growing involvement in public affairs, focusing on issues surrounding Freedom of Information and the commercial re-use of Public Sector Information.

He founded Landmark Information Group to provide a one-stop source of quality-controlled environmental information to geotechnical and environmental consultants, lawyers, civil engineers, bankers and other professionals involved in property development. In providing this service, Landmark developed one of the largest Geographical Information System in Europe in their Exeter Offices. The Daily Mail group of companies acquired Landmark in September 1998, which now has revenues of over £50 million a year.

Christopher Roper has contributed articles, papers and chapters to a wide variety of journals, magazines and books, and still writes extensively on matters that interest him. He was on the Council of the Association for Geographical Information for three years, from 1999-2000, and is one of six expert members of the Advisory Panel on Public Sector Information, a non-departmental statutory body.
