23rd March 2004 - Trucost Research Report - Emissions Trading and European Aviation |

Trucost has published a research report entitled Emissions Trading and European Aviation, which looks at the implications for the European Aviation Industry, should it be included in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme from 2008 as is the UK Government's stated objective. Trucost's research studies the inherent and growing conflict between unconstrained growth of the aviation sector and wider policy objectives to reduce the overall level of emissions in the European Union. Trucost's principle conclusions are threefold: 1. An aviation emissions trading scheme could have a large impact on the profitability of low cost flights in Europe 2. Airlines with more globally diversified routes will be less affected than those whose flights are entirely within the EU 3. 'Grandfathering' may not be the most appropriate allocation method For more information contact: |
